NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Christopher Newport football is in the midst of a season to remember. The Captains, ranked #14 in Division III, have opened the year 7–0 — the best start in the 25-year history of the program.
CNU, one of just eight remaining undefeated teams in Division III, has now won 12 straight games dating back to last season, when the Captains closed the year with five consecutive victories. Their success has propelled them to their highest national ranking since 2007, when they reached #12 after a win over 10th-ranked Rowan. The program’s all-time best mark came in 2003, when CNU was ranked 11th nationally in the inaugural D3football.com poll.
This Saturday, the Captains will look to keep their perfect season alive when they host Montclair State.
