Northern Territory senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price rejected an offer to settle a defamation lawsuit two months before making a public appeal for money to help fund her Federal Court trial, court documents have revealed.
The senator is being sued by Central Land Council (CLC) chief executive Lesley Turner over a press release distributed by her office in July last year, which claimed Mr Turner was no longer fit to be CEO due to "unprofessional conduct".
The CLC is one of Australia's largest Aboriginal representative bodies and is made up of 90 elected delegates from across the central desert region.
The seven-day hearing wrapped up earlier this week after hearing evidence from several witnesses, including Senator Nampijinpa Price and Mr Turner.
