More patients have been caught up in a medical imaging bungle at Caboolture Hospital's outpatient service in which scans went unchecked.

The number of people requiring follow-up after the review has risen to 21, revised up from four since October 13.

Metro North Health has been reviewing the imaging results of 12,529 patients at the hospital's specialist outpatient department for the past four weeks.

The review was prompted by the case of a patient who went to the emergency department in September, unaware they had advanced cancer.

The cancer had been detected in medical scans that were ordered but were not checked by doctors.

The patient has since died.
