Kolkata: If US president Donald Trump slashes tariff on goods imported from China across the board to 47%, India could emerge as the country attracting the highest 50% tariff for imports of goods into the US. The meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies ended in the US shaving 3 percentage points off the 50% tariff wall it erected before goods imports from China.

After a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Trump said the tariff on imports of Chinese goods will drop to 47%. A few weeks ago he had threatened China saying that he will impose 100% tariff on goods if the country did not withdraw restrictions on export of rare earth magnets, a stand from which he climbed down unilaterally a few days ago.

Brazil is the other country on which Trump slapped 50% tariff
