WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Residents are advised to clear storm drains of fallen leaves before heavy rain arrives Thursday as part of a First Alert Weather Day.

Fallen leaves are covering drainage systems across the area, preventing water from entering sewers during storms.

Many drains remain completely blocked by foliage, creating conditions for street flooding when rain begins.

Breezy morning conditions are blowing leaves around, with many still clinging to trees before the expected wet and windy weather arrives.

Leaf collection in Wethersfield does not begin until Saturday, leaving residents to manage the debris themselves.
