The weather conditions weren't pristine, but the Nitro boys soccer team overcame what was thrown its way Wednesday night.
The Wildcats secured a spot in next week's Class AAA state tournament by shutting out Spring Valley, 2-0, in the Class AAA Region 4 tournament final at Underwood Field.
Nitro (20-0-2) punched its ticket to Beckley for the first time since 2017, when the Wildcats won it all.
"My emotions are excitement," Nitro coach Jim Jordan said. "You can't relax with [Spring Valley]. Last time we played them, they scored two goals in two minutes to tie. We knew all the way down to the last ticking second that it was going to be a battle. They came out and played hard, while forcing us into some missed shots.
