New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker, is preparing to launch its first small hybrid car by the second quarter of the next financial year (FY27). The upcoming model will be the Fronx compact SUV, powered by Maruti’s own strong hybrid powertrain, a first for the brand. A strong hybrid system uses both a petrol engine and an electric motor with a battery.
It will launch with the government’s Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) Phase-III norms, set to take effect from April 1, 2027. These new rules will require carmakers to improve their average fuel efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions across their line-up. Strong hybrid cars will help manufacturers like Maruti meet these stricter standards while offering customers better mileage and lower running costs.
