NEW YORK (PIX11) – A weather alert was issued for New York City ahead of heavy rain, gusty winds and coastal flooding heading to the tri-state area on Thursday.
The worst of the rain is expected in the afternoon, according to the Office of Emergency Management. Officials warned of minor flooding in parts of southern Queens and Jamaica Bay.
Winds could also reach up to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall rates up to 1 inch per hour are also possible.
Parts of the Jersey Shore are preparing for beach erosion and coastal flooding. Long Branch officials sent crews to clean drains and check on creeks.
The storm will move out of the tri-state area by Friday.
