Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a sacred tradition in Mexican culture to honor the deceased and celebrate life in November, will be celebrated in locations around Kitsap County, kicking off this weekend.
On Nov. 1, people can find colorful altars decorated with flowers, food and photos of people's loved ones that have passed away — including their furry friends — set up at sites throughout Bremerton, Silverdale, and Poulsbo. The altars are part of the Día de Muertos celebration events hosted by We Are Better Together Foundation — a Kitsap-based nonprofit committed to supporting Latino families across the region, in collaboration with Olympic College, Kitsap Regional Library and local organizations.
