NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City organizations are teaming up to help those impacted by Hurricane Melissa, which tore through Jamaica as a Category 5 storm.
The hurricane has moved just north of the Bahamas as of Thursday. Over 75% of Jamaica has been left without power and at least eight people died during the storm, according to officials.
Collin Douglas, the owner of the Bronx-based The Original Dumpling Shop, has begun accepting Jamaica relief donations. He’s asking for zinc, canned goods and other items.
The shop is teaming up with the JAHJAH Foundation, a Jamaican cultural organization based in New York City. For more information, click here.
In Yonkers, the Afya Foundation has shipped 20 palettes of medical supplies to Jamaica. It’s accepting money to ship out relief.
