Southgate's fire marshal said Wednesday that his department has found a "point of origin" for last weekend's fire at a senior living facility in the city but hasn't determined a cause of it yet.
Jeff Niemann said he's trying to contact witnesses and other people to get some questions answered. He didn't specify what the "point of origin" is.
"It may be a bit yet before I have a cause," he said, "and quite often we never truly learn, because obviously fire being destructive quite often destroys the cause."
A fire broke out at American House Southgate on Allen Road at about 10 p.m. Friday. Police said there were 87 residents and staff in the building at the time. All of them were accounted for, authorities said. Two people, including a firefighter, were treated for injuries.
