DENVER (KDVR) — The caretaker of a home off Flagstaff Road may have saved the lives of several cats and rabbits when he noticed a fire had started in an outbuilding on Wednesday afternoon.

Mountain View Fire Rescue said the caretaker first noticed the fire just after 4 p.m. on Wednesday and called for first responders. The home is located in the 5000 block of Flagstaff Road.

Firefighters were dispatched immediately and were able to quickly put water on the fire and contain the flames to the single structure. The firefighters limited the spread of the blaze and kept the flames out of the grass and trees near the outbuilding.

The building suffered significant damage, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
