INDIANAPOLIS — Most of late Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay's collection of iconic guitars, pop culture artifacts and historic memorabilia will soon be up for sale.

The Irsay family on Thursday, Oct. 30 announced plans to sell the majority of "The Jim Irsay Collection" beginning in March in auctions run by Christie's New York . In a statement provided by the Colts, the family said, "this decision was not made lightly, but with deep reflection and love for the legacy he built."

The collection, which had been valued by some experts at over $1 billion, includes instruments owned and played by iconic musicians such as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Kurt Cobain and Eddie Van Halen.

The collection has also contained items including Muhammad Ali'
