New Year’s Eve 1924, 10 local men held a dance in the gymnasium of the former St. Joseph’s separate school in Windsor, planting a seed that would grow and blossom into today’s century-old Giovanni Caboto Club.
On the heels of that successful first dance, the men formed the Border Cities Italian Club, in January 1925.
By the end of the club’s first year, membership stood at 109 men and there was a reserve fund of $1,154.22.
One hundred years later, membership, which includes women since 2023, has burgeoned to 1,138 and the Caboto Club can provide a full-scale banquet experience to more than 3,000 people at one time.
Incorporated in 1927, the club’s aim was to promote and encourage Italian culture through educational, recreational, fraternal and charitable endeavours. It is named after I
