A nine-year-old boy was airlifted to the mainland for treatment for "serious injuries" yesterday after being hit by a car in the Western Isles . ‌

Emergency services were called to the B892 in Balivanich on Benbecula at around 4.40pm yesterday, Wednesday, October 29. ‌

The boy, who had been with a friend at the time, had been struck by a Mitsubishi car while crossing the road and sustained "serious injuries". ‌

He was flown to Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow where he remains in a "serious but stable" condition.

A local diversion is currently in place and the road has been closed for around 20 hours following the collision while investigations are carried out.
