John MacKay has confirmed he will step down as STV news presenter after more than three decades. The veteran broadcaster will leave the company in March next year, 32 years after he joined the station. ‌

The 59-year-old will leave his news anchor role to continue with his writing, having previously had six books published, as well as other creative ventures, according to STV . ‌

MacKay joined the news station in 1994 as a reporter on Scotland Today, the evening news programme at the time. In 1998, he was promoted to co-anchor the show with Shereen Nanjiana. ‌

His trademark "I'm John MacKay" introduction has been a permanent feature on our screens since then as he was beamed into homes across the country reading the day's news.
