In the midst of a rebuild, the Washington Nationals are bringing some youth into their dugout.

The Nationals are finalizing a deal to hire Blake Butera as their next manager, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported Thursday.

At 33 years old, Butera will become the youngest manager in MLB in more than 50 years. St. Louis Cardinals manager Olivier Marmol was previously the youngest active manager at 35 years old.

The Nationals let go of long-time manager Dave Martinez during the 2025 season, with Miguel Cairo taking over for half the season in an interim basis.

Butera has spent the last 10 years within the Tampa Bay Rays organization, working as a minor-league manager for four seasons before moving into player development for the franchise.
