A strong storm system moving through New Jersey today will bring widespread rain, isolated thunderstorms, coastal flooding and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
The storm will impact the region throughout Thursday, with rain spreading across the state this morning and becoming heaviest during the afternoon and evening hours, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.
Most areas will receive 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, with localized amounts near 3 inches possible.
Brief periods of heavy rain could produce rates approaching 1 inch per hour, potentially causing minor flooding in urban and poor drainage areas.
The weather service forecast includes “isolated severe thunderstorms possible with locally damaging wind gusts or a brief tornado, resulting in tree damage and power outages.”
