The Red Sox have some important decisions to make when the offseason begins, including first and third base.

Alex Bregman is expected to opt out of his contract. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported the Red Sox have not been formally informed that Bregman will do so , but all parties are operating as if that is the case.

Then there’s first base. The Red Sox didn’t fully commit to Triston Casas being the team’s first baseman in 2026. Casas suffered a serious season-ending knee injury and it’s unclear if he’ll be ready for Opening Day.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden revealed his list of top 50 MLB free agents and where they’d best fit. He has the Red Sox as best fits for several players, but two would fill the need at the corner positions.
