An 18-year-old student is in custody after officials discovered a loaded gun in his backpack thanks to another student's tip.

Cameron Kopfer, 18, was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon for bringing a loaded weapon onto school premises. Advertisement

According to court documents, Kopfer attends the Scott Educational Center, which is a nontraditional education center that is a part of Belton Schools. The Scott Educational Center offers night classes for credit recovery, court documents said.

Another student told the school resource officer that Kopfer showed him a black handgun in his backpack while in class on Oct. 27.
