GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Samaritan's Purse in Greensboro sent much-needed disaster relief supplies and equipment to Jamaica Thursday morning as the island begins to recover from Hurricane Melissa.

According to a press release, at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, Samaritan's Purse launched its 757 cargo plane carrying approximately 38,000 pounds of relief supplies and equipment, shelter materials, water filtration systems, medical supplies, solar lights and other critical relief to Jamaica in response to Hurricane Melissa.

By the end of Thursday, Samaritan's Purse expects to have 32 disaster relief specialists on the ground in Jamaica.
