Low water levels have resulted in a disruption in newsprint production in Corner Brook.

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper will be temporarily ceasing its newsprint production as of Monday.

Kruger says low water levels are affecting the ability of Deer Lake Power to supply sufficient energy to operate the mill.

The company calls it a “critical situation,” caused by extremely low precipitation throughout the province, resulting in historically low water levels at the Grand Lake reservoir.

The shutdown will last until water levels are restored.

Similarly historic low water levels are being seen on Beothuk Lake, part of the same water system.
