A GoFundMe campaign to help install stair lifts for an 11-year-old boy from Sudbury who lives with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease had raised $1,754 toward its $3,000 goal by Thursday afternoon.
Melissa Bernier-Legare started the fundraiser for her son, Alex, whose progressive condition affects his muscles and makes everyday movement a challenge.

“Despite his strength and determination, simple tasks that most of us take for granted, like climbing the stairs, getting to his room or moving around the house have become increasingly difficult and exhausting for him,” Bernier-Legare wrote on her fundraising page . “The stairs are now a daily obstacle, and it’s heartbreaking to see his independence slipping away.
