Although a lot of attention has been paid to the demand for skilled tradespeople, not all trades in Greater Sudbury are experiencing shortages.

To understand what trades are at risk, Workforce Planning for Sudbury and Manitoulin embarked on a research project to examine the top 10 compulsory trades based on the number, age and gender of journeypersons, number of new and active apprentices, and number of online job postings over a one-year period for those trades.

“Three non-compulsory but high demand trades were also explored but less data is available on them,” the organization said in a release. “Local employers, unions and colleges were also interviewed to get their thoughts on skilled trades shortages.”
