With more than 8,000 families in the area expected to be impacted by the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits on Nov. 1 due to the federal government shutdown, Coconino County is mobilizing resources to sponsor a community food drive.

The loss of the benefits will result in families losing access to monthly food assistance, leaving food banks and nonprofits to fill the gap. Additionally, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs is planning to allocate $1.8 million to support families impacted by the SNAP suspension.
