MANCHESTER, N.H. —

The federal government shutdown is threatening the availability of funds for people in need through the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) program.

The program, which provides benefits to eligible low-income people and families so they can purchase healthy food, is set to run out of funding, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

No benefits will be issued to SNAP recipients if the shutdown continues, according to federal officials.

The White House says it will partially fund the SNAP program after a pair of judges’ rulings required the payments to continue.
