The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 11:55 a.m. on Thursday for strong thunderstorms until 12:30 p.m. for Northern Wayne and Pike County.
Residents can look for wind gusts of up to 50 mph.
"At 11:55 a.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Greeley, or 14 miles northwest of Montague, moving north at 70 mph," explains the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects."
Locations impacted by the alert include Rockland, Lackawaxen, Liberty, Bethel, Damascus, Callicoon, Shohola, Tusten, Cochecton and Fremont.
The weather service states, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building."
