The U.S. Senate voted 51-47 Thursday to end the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump on April 2 to impose global tariffs.
Republican Senators Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, along with Alaska's Lisa Murkowski and Maine's Susan Collins joined Democrats in supporting the measure.
Earlier this week, senators voted 52-48 to repeal Trump’s tariffs on Brazil and 50-46 to repeal tariffs on Canada.
Collins, Murkowski, Paul and McConnell joined Democrats on the Canada vote. The same four, along with Thom Tillis of North Carolina, voted against Trump's Brazil tariffs.
McConnell, the former GOP leader, said in a statement earlier this week that “tariffs make both building and buying in America more expensive,” while Paul said Trump’s use of emergency powers for trade
