A 35-year-old man in New Jersey is accused of killing his girlfriend as she was trying to break up with him , then driving around with her body for several hours while sending photos and messages from her phone to make it seem as though she were still alive.

Andres Calvachi-Paz was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 28-year-old Dayana Chisaguano Maleza, authorities announced. In addition to murder, Calvachi-Paz is also facing one count of second-degree disturbing human remains and one count of third-degree theft.

According to a news release from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the investigation began when Maleza's body was discovered along the roadway near the Cedar Hill Golf Course in Livingston, New Jersey, which is about 25 miles
