Only four pitchers have struck out more in a Fall Classic game (Bob Gibson has the record of 17 in 1968 and also fanned 13 four years earlier) and one of the others, Los Angeles Dodgers legend Sandy Koufax, was even in attendance Wednesday night.
Koufax struck out 15 Yankees in 1963, Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Carl Erskine struck out 14 Yankees in 1953 and Philadelphia Athletics starter Howard Ehmke struck out 13 Cubs players in 1929.
