MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) — An American crocodile that was found with a fishing spear in her head and a bullet in her skull is recovering at a Florida zoo after "a remarkable and traumatic ordeal."
Britney, an American crocodile, was rescued earlier this month by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The 8-foot-long croc was found injured in the Florida Keys.
Zoo Miami’s head veterinarian, Dr. Gwen Myers, said her team successfully removed the fishing spear and has been providing intensive medical care since her rescue.
However, they were unable to remove the bullet because it "could cause further damage to the surrounding tissues" if removed.
Britney suffered permanent vision loss in her left eye as a result of the gunshot injury.
