Projet Montréal leader and mayoral hopeful Luc Rabouin was on the Plateau today, highlighting what he calls a small but important victory in Montreal’s fight against illegal short-term rentals.

“Today we are in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, and we have a good example of the success we had to convert seven unit housing. They were used just for Airbnb, and with Airbnb for tourists. But also there were some criminal activities there,” said Rabouin.

Rabouin said the case shows how difficult enforcement can be, and why the city needs stricter rules for platforms like Airbnb.

The Projet Montréal leader also took aim at his rival, Ensemble Montréal’s mayoral candidate Soraya Martinez Ferrada, accusing her of proposing looser bylaws that would allow more short-term rentals in residential areas.
