WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Safety officials from several organizations banded together Thursday to emphasize safe driving on Halloween.

Among those who spoke were representatives from the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, R.I. Department of Transportation, AAA and the Boys & Girls Club of Warwick.

"It's one of those nights that really brings the whole community together," Boys & Girls Club of Warwick CEO Laura D'Antuono said. "But with all that excitement comes the need to be extra careful."

The speakers urged drivers to reduce their speed while on the road and avoid distractions.

"Kids will be walking after dark, running from house to house, and there will be more traffic on the roads," D'Antuono added. "So we're asking everyone, especially the drivers, to slow down, stay alert and
