HANNIBAL (WGEM) - The North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) has opened a temporary food pantry in Marion County as local food pantries continue to struggle.

The NECAC Marion County Service Center started accepting food donations last week.

In just a week, Stephanie Dunker, NECAC Marion County service coordinator, said they have already handed out meals to around 12 different people. They don’t hand out as much as a full food pantry, but she said they hope they are able to help people who are in immediate need.

“We will use the food that is donated here and put together meal bags. For example, spaghetti with spaghetti sauce and a couple sides,” Dunker said. “Our purpose here with doing this is to get clients or people in need, get them through the evening into the morning hours
