LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- The federal government shutdown will cause nearly half a million people to stop receiving SNAP benefits starting on Nov. 1. One local nonprofit is taking action.

Vegas Helps, a local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Las Vegas families in need, created VegasFoodBoxes, which will provide $10,000 worth of emergency pre-packaged food boxes on Monday, Nov. 3, to eligible families.

The food boxes are designed to help Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, eligible families in the Las Vegas valley who are at risk of losing benefits due to the funding freeze.

Each pre-packaged bundle will include nonperishable essentials and ready-to-cook groceries and will be limited to one per household.
