Glencore says it is investigating new complaints of dust – or fallout – from its smelter in Falconbridge.
In a letter to the community’s residents on Thursday, Glencore said it has contacted the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks about the potential fallout, as well as the City of Greater Sudbury and Public Health Sudbury and Districts.
“The smelter was operating under normal conditions throughout the day (and) as a precaution we have curtailed operations,” Glencore wrote in the letter. “The company has activated its Smelter Response Team and conducting sampling. We are assessing whether this is related to our operations.”
People with questions can contact Glencore’s Community Line at 705-693-2761, ext. 3989, or email sudburycommunity@glencore.ca .
