In 1994, with the help the media – radio, television, and press – I introduced to northeastern Ontario the wonderful project of Operation Christmas Child, which sends shoe boxes filled with practical, useful items to children in war torn areas and areas suffering from disasters such as drought or famine.

The initiative is run by Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian evangelical charity. Each shoe box comes with an optional copy of “The Greatest Journey,” a 12-lesson bible course.

It was an immediate hit! Timmins has shipped over 25,000 shoe boxes to the Operation Christmas Child program since 1995.
