Saskatchewan will have a "very important role" as Canadian yellow pea producers now grapple with tariffs in both of their major export markets, according to the province's minister of trade and export.
India will apply a new 30 per cent tariff on all imported yellow peas beginning Nov. 1, The Canadian Press reported Thursday .
That comes after China imposed a 100 per cent tariff on Canadian yellow peas, along with several other products, in March.
Saskatchewan Trade Minister Warren Kaeding says the province's trade office "is the highest-level office right now that is currently operating in India."
"So I would say right now Saskatchewan is going to play a very important role in working through this issue with the Indian government," Kaeding said.
