A young woman has died after being struck by lightning at a Sunshine Coast sporting oval in Queensland.
Emergency services were called out to the Cooroy Sporting Complex on Mary River Rd following reports a woman had been struck by lightning during a storm just before 5.15pm on Thursday.
The 21-year-old woman was treated by Critical Care paramedics at the scene, before being rushed to Nambour Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
However, police confirmed the woman could not be saved and died from her injuries in hospital.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Cooroora United Football Club sent a message to members confirming the incident.
“We wish to acknowledge an unexpected incident occurring at the CUFC grounds this evening, at approximately 5pm,” they said on Thurs
