A young woman killed after being struck by lightning in a freak weather event has been remembered by her mother as a much-loved “beautiful and caring” daughter.
Finley Bones, 21, was practicing goal kicking at the Cooroy Sporting Complex with her partner when she struck by a bolt of lightning on Thursday afternoon.
Critical care paramedics rushed to the oval, and Finley was taken to Nambour Hospital in a life-threatening condition.
She could not be saved and died a short time later from her injuries in hospital.
Finley’s mother Donna Markert said the family was in disbelief and that there was no warning lightning was going to strike with no rain falling.
“No one can believe this happened,” she told 7NEWS .
“Finley was 21 and had her life taken away in a minute.”
