BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — There's not much better than a hot sandwich on a cold fall day.

Restaurant owners in Blount County know there might be some dreary times ahead for SNAP recipients as Gov. Bill Lee warned that Tennesseans might see a lapse in their benefits beginning Nov. 1.

Local business owners said they want to help however they can, and many are offering a free meal option for people who show they receive money for food through SNAP.

"It doesn't matter what is going on from a political standpoint, it doesn't matter what is going on from a government standpoint," Subs & Such owner Mike Mayes said. "We hope it's over quickly, but these are our community members."

Mayes said he knows his business and others can help people right now. Starting Nov. 5, and every Wednesday as needed
