LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The much-debated decision of where to put a new $30 million sports complex in Lake Charles was finally made Tuesday, but not without one final round of spirited discussion.

The council voted 4-3 in favor of building the complex at 1 Lakeshore Drive, where the Capital One Tower once stood. The decision forwards Mayor Marshall Simien’s vision for Lake Charles. This is a change from the original proposed site on Fitzenreiter Road, and in turn, tosses plans for an amphitheater at the downtown property announced by the previous administration.

There have been lengthy and passionate debates surrounding the project, the most recent of which included comments from city council members and community leaders.
