WATERBURY, Conn. — Millions of patients have passed through the halls of Waterbury Hospital, but behind one set of doors, a surgeon is marking a milestone that blends skill, technology and teaching.
Dr. Juan Diego Holguin has performed his 1,000th robotic surgery at Waterbury Hospital, a rare achievement in the field and a testament to years of innovation and education.
Holguin, who began his residency at the hospital in 2016, says that at least 80% of his elective surgeries are now robotic.
The Da Vinci surgical system, a machine that allows doctors to operate with enhanced precision and minimal invasiveness, has been at the center of that success.
“It just feels special,” Holguin said. “The fact that I get to do this is insane, because I would pay to do this. Honestly, I feel like
