LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — More than two dozen employees at the Lincoln Airport continue to work without pay during the government shutdown.
Now, the community is stepping up to ensure that — at the very least — some of their meals are taken care of.
It started as an offer of help here and there, but has quickly turned into a full-scale community initiative.
“I’m posting on Facebook and just asking, ‘Hey, anybody in the community want to partner and maybe provide some more meals to our federal agents who are not being paid right now?’” said Rachel Barth, director of marketing and air service at LNK. “And I would say within 24 to 48 hours, we had one to two meals covered every day for the next two to three weeks.”
Barth is now coordinating weeks of meal deliveries for the 20 TSA agents and
