LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — For years, one Nebraska woman has been the face of the effort to legalize medical marijuana in Nebraska: Crista Eggers.

Her drive comes from her son, Colton. Colton has suffered from epilepsy since he was 2 years old. After a few years of treatment, the Eggers family had exhausted their options.

Medicine after medicine, some to combat symptoms from the medicines themselves, couldn’t get Colton’s seizures under control.

Then, one care team in Minnesota brought up the option of medical cannabis to Eggers and her family.

“As a parent, obviously, I said, ‘Tell me more, what do I need to do?’,” Eggers said. “And that’s when they very, very clearly stated, ‘We can’t talk to you about this option because you don’t live in a legal state,’ and so I asked, ‘What do I need
