Six years after the UCP majority eliminated the publicly reporting of class sizes, the government has reinstated counting — and reporting — class sizes in the rapidly growing provincial student body.
The change was announced Wednesday after striking teachers were ordered back to the classroom.
An annual census for each school will tabulate numbers, classroom by classroom, on substitute teachers, district staff with job titles and students per classroom per school.
It will collect data on severely disabled and mildly/moderately disabled, and also gifted/talented students in each classroom.
Other numbers to be reported include refugee students, English as a second language students, First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students, those with individualized program plans, students waitlisted for
