The University of Minnesota will no longer host high school graduation ceremonies starting next year.

In a statement provided to Bring Me The News, the University says hosting nearly two dozen events is no longer feasible.

This news comes after two people were shot outside 3M Arena at Mariucci during Wayzata High School’s graduation in May. One man was arrested and charged in connection to the shooting.

“We fully appreciate this represents a change and remain focused on our students, safety for all, operations, and core mission at a time when higher education is facing significant challenges,” the statement reads.
