HOUSTON (KIAH) - As the government goes into a full month of a federal shutdown, millions are just hours away from their SNAP benefits being cut. For families across Houston, one local restaurant is proving that comfort food can do more than fill stomachs; it can rekindle hope.
“That’s just the way of showing, we’re all in this together,” said Elsa Matthews, Co-owner of Comfort Foodies.
Comfort Foodies, known for its merged dishes of Southern classics and Caribbean cuisine, is offering $10 daily meal specials and letting kids eat free, Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. But the restaurant’s biggest impact is through its “Pay-It-Forward” meal program. A way for customers to buy a meal at half price for someone struggling to afford one during the government shutdown.
