LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

Food pantries across the city are struggling with empty shelves.

St. Vincent de Paul said they served nearly 150 people, a record amount, on Tuesday.

Tony Nochim with St. Vincent de Paul said the organization has seen a 25% increase in need this month, alongside a decrease in USDA food supply over recent months.

"We're talking, several thousand pounds less of donations per month, from the USDA," Nochim said. "It creates a challenge. So we've had less to give out, but more people to serve."

Nochim said they are still ensuring everyone gets at least something when they come to the food pantry, but is concerned about providing enough due to the pause of SNAP benefits expected on Saturday.
