BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The former advisor of Indiana University's student media newspaper has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming the university violated his free speech rights when he was fired earlier this month.

The Associated Press reported that Jim Rodenbush filed a federal lawsuit on Thursday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, contending that Indiana University violated his rights to free speech and due process when his employment was terminated on Oct. 14 after he reportedly refused to comply with an order not to include any news in the Oct. 16 Homecoming edition.

According to the complaint, Rodenbush is looking to be reinstated to his former title and is seeking monetary damages. Following Rodenbush’s firing, the Indiana Daily Student confirmed
